Welcome to Erica's
Sexual Harassment in Education Website!

School-aged children from middle school on up are facing things that their parents are not aware of or ready to deal with. Kids are not always made to feel good about themselves as they "develop" and it is important for parents, teachers, and students to all be aware that "boys will be boys" is no excuse for sexually harassing behavior. If you think your kids are too young to hear about anything having to do with sex, you are very wrong. They may be hearing and seeing things you can't imagine. It's not necessary to go into explicit detail, but you have to let your kids know that they don't have to put up with being degraded or humiliated because of their gender. If you ignore the problem, believe me, your kids will suffer.

Kids, if someone at school is making obscene comments, grabbing at you, or touching you in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable on a regular basis, that is known as sexual harassment. It doesn't matter if you are a girl or a boy, they don't have the right to treat you that way. You are not the one doing anything wrong, but you do have the right to tell them to stop or ask a teacher or other adult to do something. If they ignore the problem, don't assume that means it is okay for it to be happening to you. Some adults are just too dumb to realize that you are suffering! The purpose of this site is to help you before it is too late, because no one was around to help me while I was going through it.

If you have experienced sexual harassment in a school setting, or if you are a parent or student with something to say on the subject, feel free to send me your story at erosen@lycos.com.

If you have experienced harassment and would like to be interviewed for a popular young women's magazine, please contact me ASAP!
